Irish Counties
Some statistics on the population of each county in the Republic of Ireland for 1841, 1901, 2002 and 2016.
From these statistics you can see clearly the effect of the famine and emigration on every county in Ireland, many of the counties had their populations reduced by more than half. For example the fall from just over 854,000 for Cork in 1841 to 404,000 in 1901. In fact the only counties in Ireland that now have a greater population than in 1841 are Dublin, Kildare. Louth (only just), Meath and Wicklow.
The population of the Republic of Ireland in 1841 was 6,528,799 but by 2016 it had only reached 4,761,865.
